Side Quest 1: Start a newsletter dedicated to completing side quests.
Greetings heros!
Welcome to my FIRST EVER SIDE QUEST.
This is just the beginning of many more adventures being shared on this newsletter stream. I'm hoping to make this a bi-monthly (twice a month) newsletter that's short and simple. The content is going to take the format of the acronym SEE! (See, very creative I know!)
S - Side quest
E - EXP share (What I learned and how you can do the same side quest)
E - Embrace Entropy (Organized Chaos - But essentially a nice way to end the newsletter. Includes a different favorite recent quote, song, and/or user submitted photograph each time)
If you want to submit a photograph for the next newsletter issue - email me at [email protected]
You might be wondering:
What’s the purpose of this first newsletter post?
Well it's quite simple, really. it's dedicated to the very act of creating a newsletter for side quests—which, let’s be honest, probably creates a side quest time loop paradox that could break the universe.
(Don’t worry, though. The universe seems fine, and I haven’t exploded yet, so we’re in the clear.)
SIDE QUEST:
I made a newsletter called DO MORE SIDE QUESTS. (this one you're currently reading). I'm also hoping to build this throughout my entire life with posts full of side quests I undertake in life, sharing with you guys all the details.
But why a newsletter in the first place, and why did you mention us readers in the beginning as heros?
Because whoever is reading this, I belive you are the hero of your own story.
You are on the journey of completing your main quest, and on the way you have the choice, not the obligation, to complete side quests along the way and earn valuable EXP (*experience points* for those not gamers out there).
This could be in the form of life experiences, memories, photos, and maybe a new song a brand-new friend reccommended to you. This EXP in turn can help you stay ahead of the curve, and make future side quests even easier.
See the potential here? The very act of "gamifying" our lives makes it more fun and worthwhile, and provides motivation to easily accomplish our goals.
Social media algorithms are unpredictable, and platforms can disappear overnight. (Looking at you, TikTok and the U.S. government.) An email list, however, is timeless. Fun fact: 4.3 billion people worldwide use email.
Also, if I have a brand-new, exciting project to share; this newsletter will be the first place I announce it.
EXP:
Because I want to spark a movement and make something greater than myself—and it’s already happening! More and more people, especially young adults, are prioritizing experiences over material goods more often than not.
For example, a survey from Eventbrite found that 78% of millennials would rather spend money on desirable experiences than on desirable items. that’s huge! And I believe this mindset will continue to grow with younger generations.
As a Gen Z’er, I feel like we have the power to reshape perspectives about what truly matters in life. Living a full life, or completing your “Main Quest,” is all about the side quests—the experiences that help you grow, learn, and earn sweet EXP.
(Can you tell that I love video games?)
EMBRACE ENTROPY
Book Reccomendation: The Slight Edge. by Jeff Olson
(this book seriously changed my entire mindset of life, it's all about the daily choices we make and how small steps lead to a big impact. For a future newsletter~)
If you want to join a community of people who actively seek side quests (because they know the full potential they bring) check out my community EMBRACE ENTROPY where me and others will be sharing life hacks, tips, and experiences from all the side quests we seek. The best part too - now it's free.
I’ll save most of my story for a future post, but here’s the short version: Jet Blizzard is my YouTube channel and social media brand which I grew to 1 million subscribers thanks to Skibidi animations.
Yes, you read that right. Do I regret it? Nope.
It’s just another side quest in life.
The XP I earned from that journey? Still calculating. But you can be the judge of how much.
Thanks for reading this first Side Quest! I’ll see you in the next one.
If you have any ideas or suggestions for the newsletter, I’m all ears! Seriously, I want your feedback. Send your thoughts to [email protected]—let me know what you want to see and how I can make this better.
Cheers,
Joseph Shoemaker | Jet Blizzard
